The Gosberton Risegate report explores a fascinating Fenland landscape with a history shaped by medieval settlement, agriculture, drainage and trade. Once closely linked with neighbouring Gosberton Clough and the Risegate Eau waterway, the area developed around farming, milling and local commerce, while its low-lying landscape hints at an even earlier past of tidal salt marshes and ancient roddons. Although no confirmed archaeological sites are recorded within the detected field, the discoveries reveal centuries of activity spanning the Roman period through the Saxon, Medieval and post-Medieval eras.
